Boards.ie FAQ
From boards.ie Wiki
Welcome to Boards.ie! The idea behind this post is to serve as an update to older newbie guides and introduce some things not covered in previous newbie guides, such as the infraction system. There are a lot of very useful points spread out over various topics in this section of the Board, so I hope this topic will serve as a good summary.
Stickied Topics & The Forum Charter
At the top of each forum there are stickied topics. These are important topics which will help you when posting on the forum in question. Some of these topics must be read before posting on the forum – such topics include the forum charter.
The forum charter is a set of helpful guidelines/rules/policies set out by the moderators of the forum. It is important to read the charter before posting as this will make your time on boards more enjoyable. Boards.ie Charter
While each forum has its own forum charter, the general Boards.ie Charter applies to every forum. Common sense prevails when posting on Boards.ie but below is a brief guide;
* Personal Abuse will not be tolerated – Attack the post and not the poster. * Spamming / Advertising will not be tolerated – please contact one of the admins, or sales@boards.ie, for more information on advertising. * Posting the same topic in several forums is considered spamming – Please pick the most appropriate forum for your topic, and post it there. * Inappropriate Posts will be removed – this includes vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws. * Duplicate accounts are not permitted - if you require a duplicate account, please PM one of the admins to discuss it. * Txt or l33t speak is not permitted. Its very, VERY, hard to read posts constructed in that way!
All in all, common sense helps a lot. The above are guidelines - If you are acting out of what could be considered 'normal behaviour', don't be surprised if you get a holiday from Boards.ie.
Infractions & Bannings
A moderator will use his/her discretion when issuing out bans or infractions based on common sense. This means – you might be issued a warning first, or depending on the seriousness of the problem, you might be instantly banned. A warning might be given publicly in a topic, over PM or using the infraction system.
The infraction system works on a Red & Yellow card basis. If you receive a red card infraction it will be marked on your profile. A red card infraction has a time frame of 10 days (per infraction) and is worth one point. If you clock up 9 active points, you will be given a temporary ban from Boards.ie.
* A “Yellow” card is a warning and does not count towards your active point count. * A “Red” card increases your active point count.
If you have any issues or concerns with either a warning or a ban, the best approach to take is to discuss the matter over PM with the mod first. If that doesn’t work, you can try the CMod. The next available option for you is to make a post in the Help Desk forum. In this forum, only Smods and Admins can respond to your post. When making your post, please explain clearly your concerns and link to any posts/topics related to your thread. If you are demanding about it, you will probably get the Admins/Smods backs up and reduce the chances of removing the ban.
Please allow at least 48hours for a response as Boards.ie Moderators work on this forum on a voluntarily basis. Do not post your issues in the forum you have issues with.
Posts in the Feedback forum should be Feedback on Boards.ie. This is not a forum to air concerns over a moderator.
If you are banned from Boards.ie you will be given the chance to appeal the ban in the Prison forum.
Hopefully that covers everything. If anyone wants to make any additions or has any suggestions - fire away. If you have any questions, it might be best to start a new topic in the forum rather then reply here. Its possible that your question might have already been posted, so try searching before posting!
